Why Centrifugal Pumps Should Be Flooded Before Starting

Why should the centrifugal pump be filled with water before starting? Since the centrifugal pump lifts water by drawing in the vacuum created by the centrifugal force of the impeller, the centrifugal pump must first be started by closing the gate valve. When filled with water, the water level is higher than the impeller position, and the centrifugal pump can be started after the air in the pump is discharged. After starting, vacuum air is formed around the impeller and water is drawn upwards. The gate can be opened automatically the water is lifted, so the gate valve must be shut-off first. This is why it is important to divert irrigation water before starting the centrifugal pump!
The following are a few measures to fill with water in the centrifugal pump:
● Suction method. Pumping equipment pumps the air out of chemical centrifugal pumps and suction lines and sucks out the liquid. Pumping equipment can be used with hand presses and electric vacuum pumps (usually water ring vacuum pumps). The suction port of the vacuum pump should be connected to a higher portion of the pump or discharge pipe, if possible, to pump all gases from the pump.
● Reflux filling method. Backflow filling systems use the liquid accumlated in the high level tank on the discharge side for backflow filling.When this method is used, only one start-up one start-up is using a manual push pump.
● Tap water refilling method. For chemical centrifugal pumps with lower water quality requirements, or other feed pumps with tap water that have less influence on the transport medium, tap water can be used for refilling, which is very convenient.
●Downstream filling method. This method is used in many instances in chemical pumping installations, as long as the pump is positioned below the level of the suction tank, the so-called filling. Since the liquid is always stored in the pump during such installations, there is no need to refill the pump when it is started. When in use, install the valve in the suction line to facilitate pump maintenance. The valves should be low resistance gate and plug valves, and do not forget to open them before starting the pump.
To fill the sulfuric acid pump with water, you can fill it from the outlet pipe. Before starting the chemical pump, fill the pump casing with water, the water pipe for filling can be connected anywhere between the pump bottom valve and the pump discharge pipe check valve. Open the air venting valve above the pump casing when filling water, and the water coming out of the air venting valve indicates that the water has been filled. Close all valves related to filling water and start the pump.
